Endocrine Development Vol 12 : Development of the Pancreas and Neonatal Diabetes / R. Scharfmann
Titre : Endocrine Development Vol 12 : Development of the Pancreas and Neonatal Diabetes Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : R. Scharfmann, Auteur ; J. P. H. Shield, Auteur ; P. E. Mullis, Auteur Editeur : Karger Année de publication : 2007 ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-3-8055-8385-5 Langues : Français (fre) Catégories : Endocrinologie Résumé : It is now clear that abnormal pancreas development can give rise to specific forms of diabetes. Thus, the study of human and animal pancreatic developmental biology, one of the main focuses of the current volume of 'Endocrine Development', is crucial - also in order to define new treatments for diabetes based on cell therapy or regenerative medicine. This publication presents in vivo and in vitro techniques to investigate pancreas development and islet cell function. Besides, a series of reviews are included dealing with genetics. Amongst others, the transcription factors in pancreatic development are observed, and the distinct roles of HNF1beta, HNF1alpha, and HNF4alpha in regulating pancreas development, beta-cell function and growth are studied in detail. A further point under discussion is genomic imprinting and its impact on the pancreas. Special emphasis is placed on the investigation, management and treatment of neonatal diabetes. This collection written by outstanding scientists and clinicians is a valuable reference for endocrinologists, geneticists and pancreatic developmental scientists alike. Titre : Endocrine Development Vol 15 : Endocrinopathy After Childhood Cancer Treatment Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : W. H. B. Wallace, Auteur ; C. J. H. Kelnar, Auteur ; P. E. Mullis, Auteur Editeur : Karger Année de publication : 2009 ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-3-8055-9037-2 Langues : Français (fre) Catégories : Endocrinologie Résumé : Continuing advances in the management of childhood malignancies result in a rapidly growing number of childhood cancer survivors. However, many of them experience treatment-induced `late effects' including a significant number of endocrine dysfunctions. In this book experts in the field of late effects of childhood cancer treatment offer clinical insight into pertinent issues such as the impact of cancer therapies on growth, puberty and hypothalamic and pituitary function, male and female fertility, obesity, and metabolic and bone problems. Multidisciplinary long-term follow-up of these patients is essential to monitor, treat and prevent morbidity. Therefore this volume is of great interest to pediatric endocrinologists and oncologists, adult and reproductive endocrinologists, primary care practitioners, nurses and nurse practitioners as well as others involved in planning and delivering the holistic care which this increasingly numerous and important group of patients requires. E. Mullis, Auteur Editeur : Karger Année de publication : 2012 ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-3-8055-9336-6 Langues : Français (fre) Catégories : Endocrinologie Résumé : The extended contents of this second edition reflect the growing spectrum of topics in pediatric and adolescent gynecology. Like its predecessor, this book addresses the most common gynecological problems encountered in childhood medicine, including endocrinological and surgical aspects. New chapters place particular emphasis on an update of technological aspects such as ultrasound, molecular genetics, surgery in sex disorders and new problems encountered in reproductive medicine. The book opens with a comprehensive description of the background of infant and adolescent gynecology and diagnostic tools. Several chapters are devoted to the various pathologies encountered in prepubertal and adolescent girls. Contemporary social issues such as sexual abuse, sexually transmitted diseases, contraception for teenagers and teenage pregnancy are also discussed in detail. Presenting a clear plan for clinical management and treatment of frequently encountered problems in prepubertal and adolescent girls, this book should be read by pediatricians, endocrinologists, gynecologists and family practitioners.
