Résumé : |
Physicians have previously concentrated on treating medical problems as they arise. Care and treatment have tended to be given reactively. However, many problems can be prevented now, or at least significantly ameliorated, by screening for precursor lesions and early intervention. Brigitte E. Miller and the other authors of this book provide a concise and yet illuminating illustrative review of the techniques of sigmoidoscopy and cystoscopy. Centering on the practical use of these techniques, the authors review the indications, technique and findings in a clinically relevant way. Clinicians, residents and students involved in sigmoidoscopy and cystoscopy will benefit from having key information available within one resource. The primary cars provider, who is in a pivotal position to evaluate the risk status of the patient and recommend screening as necessary will obtain information that will be invaluable when they are faced with patients who will require either of these procedures. The goals are to allow nonspecialists to gain background knowledge of the technique and the likely findings of sigmoidoscopy and cystoscopy, and organize an examination area in the office. Furthermore, the endoscopic figures and the illustrations of the anatomy and techniques involved will be helpful in explaining more about the appearances of the normal and abnormal sigmoid colon and bladder. This book should not replace the specialist - but it should help to make appropriate referrals and give more patients access to screening exams.
